Space Athletics Federation® athlete Sean Tobin sets new Antarctica continental marathon record

Space Athletics Federation® athlete Sean Tobin set a new Antarctica continental marathon record, running 2:53.33 at Union Glacier on 14th December 2022. His time beat USA athlete Mike Wardian’s previous record of 2:54.54.

Tobin set off in pursuit of the record from the start, passing through the halfway point in 1 hr 23 mins and completing the 42.195km distance over half an hour ahead of his nearest rival.

The conditions were tough. “You just sink (into the snow)… One turn I took, I just went completely legless and hit the ground. I was trying to getup and go again,” he said after finishing.
